Seleny Villanueva-Pott Speaks Out About her Re-election as Caye Caulker Chair

The recently re-elected chair of the Caye Caulker Village Council, Seleny Villanueva-Pott, spoke with News Five about her victory at the polls on June twenty-sixth. As we’ve reported, Villanueva-Pott and five members from her Generation slate got elected into office; one councilor who ran under the P.U.P. banner was successfully elected. While the official swearing in has not taken place as yet, we can tell you that Villanueva-Pott is the fourth member of her family to hold the position in the village council; she is also the third and youngest woman to be elected as chairperson of the village. Villanueva-Pott says that she is ready to work along with her area rep to move forward with the development of Caye Caulker.

“It’s not good to be too certain of yourself. But like I’ve said in my previous interviews, I know the work that I have done under my leadership, my record speaks for itself so despite all the mudslinging nobody can take that away. For me that is what the people see. I also serve with my heart; a lot of my community members know me for the things that I stand for, so at the end of the day, I knew that would have shown at the poles and it did. I knew my team was strong, so I am just grateful for all the support from the Caye Caulker community. Sometimes we learn the hard way and I have supported Andre Perez and I’ve worked with him before. I helped his campaign out here in the last general election; he chose his candidate and that’s okay. At the end of the day, I am ready to work; he’s my area representative. We have to heal and the work must continue. This is not about us being divided. I am waiting on him to come over and for us to get the work started. I know my PM has called me already and we are ready to work.”
