Gunmen Open Fire on 11th Street Residence, One Man is Dead

Jordan Bradley

The spate of gun violence in Belize City continues unabated, despite the efforts of the Leadership Intervention Unit and the Belize Police Department to keep the peace among feuding gangs. While much of that effort has been placed in the Rocky Road neighborhood, following the murder of Benjamin Hyde Sr., there seems to be another rivalry brewing. That is if investigators are able to connect the dots between the murder of Jordan Bradley on Wednesday evening and the slaying of Jeffrey Buller on Saturday morning. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

Gunfire erupted at this residence on 11th Street on Wednesday evening.  When the shooting subsided, twenty-six-year-old Jordan Bradley laid mortally wounded from rounds that found their mark on the right side of his cheek, as well as his left thigh.  Bradley did not live here.

“Do you guys know what would have had him in that particular area, at that location?”

“From time to time, one of his things that he really enjoyed doing was checkers, playing checkers.  He loved that.  And so, the morning, he was at home the whole morning, going through his daily routine and then in the afternoon a young man came and called him.  We don’t know the name of the guy, but he came and called him and, I guess, invited him to go and play checkers.  And we know that that was the case because on the site, when we got there yesterday evening, the checker board was right there, his checkers board.”

According to police, a white Dodge Caravan drove up, a pair of men alighted the vehicle, opened fire into the yard, retreated and made good their escape.  Wayne Myles, who lives here, was out selling pastries when he received word of the deadly shooting.

“I get the message, you know, by St. Joseph Street.  That was the first time I got the news, you know.  Somebody tell me wah bwai get shot eena di yard weh name Jordan, so I thought it was one of my brothers weh just come from foreign.  So I just stayed cool and kept on moving and when I ride pan 6th Street again , I get the next report again.  Dehn seh big action eena your yard again.  I said wow, so all I did was I hurry tried to get back to my house and try see for myself weh di go ahn with di hood.  And I saw it for myself, I can’t believe it.”

Bradley laid dead and scenes of crime personnel were already at the location gathering evidence.  Several expended shells were recovered from the area.  The incident has devastated Bradley’s family.  He lived just a few blocks away on 4th Street where he took care of his grandmother.

“Jordan was one that took the bull by the horn in caring for his grandmother, you know.  He was the one that was there, if they needed anything from the store he goes and helps them.  In fact, his regular routine everyday was getting up, making sure his grandmother gets her breakfast.  He would administer her insulin shot in the morning and in the evening; and so, he was very attentive for caring for his grandmother, you know, and that is the part that’s really killing her.”

The attack on 11th Street comes only a few days after the gangland execution of Jeffrey Buller which happened just a hop and a skip away, on 6th Street.  Police are yet to confirm whether there is a nexus between the two incidents.

Wayne Myles, Resident

“The murder here yesterday happened right around the corner from where the murder [other] took place. Well that right deh again, I noh really, I cyant seh fi ansa wahn question like that sir, cause when thing happen like that, I noh like, a man like me, I usually see it pan di news.”

Bradley’s family has made it a point to dispel any notion that he was involved in gang activity.

Voice of: Uncle of Deceased

“We know him as a person, he doesn‘t affiliate with gang members and that is what we really want to let the public know about Jordan.  He was never a person that was part of a gang.  He wasn‘t involved or took part in criminal activity.”
