Mask Recommendation as COVID Numbers Continue to Rise

Dr. Melissa Diaz-Musa

The number of active COVID-19 cases has surpassed the two thousand mark.   And while the symptoms may be milder, the disease is still highly transmissible. During an interview with Director of Public Health and Wellness, Doctor Melissa Diaz-Musa, reporters asked whether a mask mandate should be returned. Doctor Diaz-Musa recommends personal responsibility among residents to use masks to prevent transmission of the virus.

“With regards to the mask mandate for outdoors. It is best if you are planning anything, if you are having a function, try to do as many outdoor activities as possible. When you are indoor, we are still recommending especially at the workplace, especially if you can’t social distance effectively to still utilize your mask. That’s very important especially to help us to break this transmission and to see our numbers going down.”

“Should we revert to where we were before April first?”

“At this point, it is not what we are going to recommend. We still really ask for personal responsibility, responsibility to our community and to each other as well. If you do know you are sick, you’ve had fever, a family member is ill, notify your workplace, ensure that people know what’s happening because you can still transmit if you’re mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic. So that’s very important for us to remember. Not because you feel well. If you know you were very closely exposed, if you know that you were ill within the last twenty-four hours, ensure that you inform your HR persona at your work or you keep your distance, you work from home and you utilize your mask.”
