A New Intake of Police Officers Has been Approved

On Tuesday, cabinet met to discuss several matters which include an increase in requests for permits to allow charter flights from Haiti to Belize.  The ministry has assessed these applications carefully and has determined that these are not genuine tourist flights.  In consultation with the Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, permission to land will not be granted.  The minister is also contemplating a revocation of visa-free travel to Belize for Haitians.  Elsewhere in today’s Cabinet brief, approval was given for a new intake of an additional one hundred and fifty police officers to join the ranks of law enforcement.  Interested persons must present at least a high school diploma and do not require a recommendation from their area representative.  In line with that announcement, Cabinet has also given the green light for funding of the 2022 Battle Camp for the Belize Defense Force Volunteer Element and the B.D.F. Youth Cadet Corps.  Funding will be made through the Ministry of National Defense and Border Security.
