Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde Acts as P.M.

Cordel Hyde

As we told you last night, Prime Minister John Briceño will be attending a host of international events over the next three weeks which will require him to be out of the country for an extended period.  P.M. Briceño departed the country today en route to Brussels and then on to Kigali, Rwanda, to attend the twenty-second Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.  In his absence, Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde will hold over as prime minister.  We caught up with Hyde in Belize City this morning, where he was asked about what can be expected of him during this period.

Cordel Hyde, Deputy Prime Minister

“We don’t stress too much about that. We have very capable ministers. We have very capable public officer who are able to do their jobs and do it well. Unless there is a big problem, then everything will be ok. I must try to restrain myself from not going over to the Treasury, to the Ministry of Finance to authorize some spending there. But no, we don’t foresee any major issues for the next month or so. We have some of the best Ministers so we will be good.”
