Ghanaian Soap Maker to Host Training in Belmopan

Belmopan Mayor Sharon Palacio is calling on women from all nine municipalities to participate in a free soap making workshop.  The training is being facilitated by an internationally certified soap maker out of Ghana who has invested the last decade of her life in empowering women. The sessions kick off on Monday, June twentieth at the Belmopan Civic Center. We spoke with Mayor Palacio about this upcoming training.

“This training came about due to my consistent and persistent humanitarian approach to the realities. We have a lot of women who come to the City Hall requesting jobs. Everybody wants a job and as you know we don’t have the finances. We have a lot of jobs all over but we don’t have the finances. So, I was blessed to have two visitors from Ghana coming to create collaboration with me at City Hall and following shortly I found myself in Ghana and I met Jadore. I have attended some of her trainings in Ghana and I saw whereby a lot of the women, due to training they received from her are making their own money. I know soap is something we use to clean our homes, to wash our dishes, to bath ourselves and she has the recipes for all these things.”

Fatima Zahrh, Ghanaian Soap Maker

“Soap making is something that I have been doing for almost ten years now. But, for me to be a certified soap maker, it is like six years now. This is something that I love to do so I said, why don’t I go big, why don’t I improve myself by going more international.  So, I had to travel to Dubai to one of the best soap makers in Dubai that is where I learn how to make my cold press soup and other soups. Again, I had to travel all the way to Morocco again to go and learn how to make Moroccan soap. By me doing all this, it is not for me alone. It is to share with other women to also make them more independent and be their own bosses.”
