Trash bins distributed to schools

Story Picture
As part of a clean-up campaign the Belize City Council in partnership with the Belize Electricity Limited officially handed over garbage bins to eight primary schools in Belize City this morning. Bins have also been given out to residents of the Albert Division and the City Council says high demand will lead them to distribute bins to other areas. The recipients this morning were Holy Redeemer School, St. Mary’s, Wesley, Seventh Day Adventist, Baptist, St. Ignatius, Hummingbird Elementary and Salvation Army Primary School. Public Relations Officer for B.E.L. Diana Foreman says that they will work hard with the community to bring about a cleaner Belize.

Diana Foreman, Public Relations Officer, B.E.L.

“We had an initial request from Merilyn Young, the councilor asking us to provide drums that we use in our daily operations that they could then turn over into garbage disposal bins. And, we were quick to respond to that because we have our own clean-up campaign that we hope to start soon which will be that we will clean up all our power systems in Ladyville, Belmopan, Dangriga and San Pedro. Later on under our P.R. program we do have an environmental liter campaign that we hope to reach out to the communities with our employees and get out there and clean up Belize. So, we felt that it was important to reach out first to the schools and have the children understand the importance of being environmentally aware of the clean-up that is needed so much in Belize City.”

Foreman says that the employees of B.E.L. will be visible working along with the community to keep our environment clean.
