Julius Responds to Verbal Abuse Allegations

We also reached out to Area Representative Julius Espat who denies ever hurling expletives at the officer. Espat told us over the phone that he was simply attempting to point out her unlawful behaviour, which he says she confirmed in her live broadcast.

On the Phone: Julius Espat, Area Representative, Cayo South

“I don’t recall any verbal abuse. I informed her that what she was doing was against police regulations and that I requested that she stop campaigning. She responded in a very aggressive way. You have to understand the scenario in which we were in, a very emotional arena was out there, music was loud, people were shouting, but there is no aggression on our part. I just thought it was important that she understood that what she was doing is wrong. You have to understand that this officer is assigned to us at the Ministry of Finance when we have Cabinet. So, I know her and when I saw her out there I thought it was wrong. So I told her, I know you want to support your husband campaign, because she is either the common law or full wife of the U.D.P. Chairman. So I told her, you can vote that is fine. You can do background work that is fine. But, you can’t participate publicly and take sides. That is under the police regulations. I assume she wasn’t happy with that. That was the heat of the heat of the moment. It happened in a couple seconds. I wasn’t making any big deal on it from our part. I thought it was over. And then in the evening I got some clips of what she had posted online and I took my time to listen to everything from start to finish, and in the online posting she basically confirmed what I was telling her. She was campaigning, that she is not suppose to do it, that I brought it to her attention”
