“This being an activity of the current HIV/TV STIs and Hepatitis proposal being implement in country under the theme: “Getting to Ninety, Ninety, Ninety,” for the period 2022-2024. Belize is now amidst a fifth wave of the COVID pandemic and its negative impact in our country. The National HIV team, however, continues the work of biomedical strengthening and decentralization of screening and testing services for HIV, TB, and COVID-19 across Belize. The National Response Team and partners remain at the helm and are supportive of all services that aim to decrease the impact of HIV in our population, and more significantly, in those at risk. This biomedical intervention will be used to monitor the treatment response in those affected and living with HIV/AIDS, through viral load testing being the response to the highly-effective HIV medications that are provided free of cost to all living with HIV. This real-time PCR platform has the potential of providing test results within a much shorter time period than conventional testing. GeneXpert capacity will help with early diagnosis of COVID-19 patients in the health regions and districts, including San Pedro, our Isla Bonita.”
