PM Briceño Comments on New COVID Wave
The sharp increase in the number of active COVID cases is cause for concern to many. The daily infectivity rate is the highest it has been in several months. But what is the Briceño administration prepared to do to address the spike in new infections, given the fact that many of the regulations that were in place since the start of the pandemic have been relaxed?
John Briceño, Prime Minister
“I think what is important with COVID, it seems as the way it‘s progressing, it‘s turning more into a serious cold. It‘s not to say that it is not important to monitor, but it is becoming more of a serious cold and if you look at the number of hospitalizations has not increased and to me, now that is what we need to be looking at, the hospitalizations and we‘re not seeing the hospitalizations going up. I really think we need to take a closer look as to sending people home because they have COVID or maybe we may need to reduce the time maybe, cut it down to a few more days because a lot of people are losing work because of COVID when we know that it‘s only, I think, the first five days that you are infectious and after that you‘re not. And so, we need to take a look at that because people need to get back to work.”
