ASR Molasses Truck Overturns on Hummingbird Highway

An A.S.R./B.S.I. trailer truck carrying molasses overturned on the Hummingbird Highway, this morning. The driver was on his way to deliver molasses to A.S.R.’s Big Creek Port facility for export. A group of passersby rendered assistance to free the driver from beneath the truck where he was trapped. He was then transported to the Southern Regional Hospital with both feet swollen, as well as cuts to the arm caused by shards of broken glass. We spoke via Zoom with William Neal, the Communications Director at A.S.R./B.S.I.

“We are not one hundred percent sure on the circumstances, but we do know what the outcome has been. Our driver was unfortunately rapped in the cab of the truck. He was hauling molasses from the mill here in Tower Hill to our Big Creek facility for export. Fortunately, people from the area, to whom we are very grateful, came out to render support until medical people where able to get there. Despite being trapped in the cab, it seems like at this point he has broken his legs, but there was no head or severe body injuries. So, he has been stabilized at the Southern Regional and is being transported later today to KHMH. Of course, the company is making sure he gets the best medical attention. We have emergency procedures in place. Immediately our supply chain team which manages the movement of raw sugar and molasses to the facility in Big Creek was on the scene to make sure that he is being taken care of, and he is being take care of in every way possible.”

He is being kept at the Southern Regional Hospital for observation.
