“As you may know, COCATRAM is the Central American Commission for Maritime Transport and we’ve been operating for forty years now, trying to promote regional and national maritime strategies for the different countries in Central America.  Belize is part of Central America and it makes total sense to have Belize be a part of COCATRAM, especially considering how important maritime transport and maritime activities are for the development of Belize.  Just like Major Swaso said, there are different benefits that we can share with you about joining COCATRAM.  I believe that beyond the benefits that are related with the different conventions that COCATRAM has, especially with institutions like the IMO, the International Maritime Organization, that has a very strong capacity building program that is conducted through COCATRAM and is basically an example for the different regions in the world.  I can proudly say that it’s one of the strongest capacity building programs for any region in the world.”
