NEMO Official Urges People to Stock Up on Hurricane Supplies
June to November is when everyone should be prepared to put into action a hurricane plan. That plan includes having sufficient flashlights or lanterns, and a battery-operated radio, medications, drinking water, and importantly, food supplies. But if you will need to pass a hurricane at one of the designated shelters, taking along some food would also be in your best interest. Today, NEMO Coordinator, Retired Colonel Shelton DeFour said that while the government will do its part to look after people at the shelters, they also need to do their part.
Shelton DeFour, Coordinator, NEMO
“People need to plan and to say what priorities they will look at in terms of stocking up on food, because I could see we stock up on cell phones sometimes. So if you could stock up on cell phones, I’m sure you could stock up on food, right. We need to look at our priorities. People coming to the shelter, we ask that you bring along something if you can – a Sunny and Tan bun, cheez whiz, a bottle of peanut butter, have something. NEMO, the state, the Government of Belize has an obligation to support and look after the people but let us try and work together. You meet us halfway and we’ll meet you the next half, so that you do your part and we do our part.”
