Mobility Ecosystem Being Developed in Belize

Electric vehicles are the future of transportation. In Belize, less than ten electric vehicles are on the nation’s highways. That number is now expected to increase, with an investment in the creation of an E-mobility eco-system. The ecosystem will see charging stations and other necessary facilities in municipalities and villages across the country and B.E.L. is leading the charge.

“The current project we have is a pilot project that includes twelve charging stations we will deploy country wide. These will be in Dangriga area, San Ignacio, Orange Walk, we are hoping to put one at the airport, in Belmopan, and a few locations in Belize City. The idea is to provide the facilities to entice the auto dealers to import electric vehicles. When we first did the market study and spoke to these different stakeholders, the overwhelming response was our car dealer partners outside of Belize will not allow to import electric vehicles until there is a national charging network in place. So, we have completely designed a complete EV or E-mobility eco- system that includes charging stations. Charging stations is only a component of that eco-system that we are building. We are already looking at phase two of this project, or implementation, by installing additional charging stations at hotels, in Punta Gorda, Corozal, in all the strategic locations we believe customers may want to stop and charge their vehicles.”
