O.W. Police Investigate Deadly Shooting of Reynaldo Marchand

Orange Walk police are still investigating the shooting death of Reynaldo Marchand.  The thirty-eight-year-old was in the company of Nazir Vasquez in front of Five-O-One Shop when they came under fire from a pair of gunmen on motorcycle.  Multiple gunshots rang out shortly after eight p.m. on Wednesday and when the shooting subsided Vasquez and Marchand were rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital for emergency medical attention.  Marchand succumbed from his injuries while receiving treatment.  Vasquez, on the other hand, has not been cooperating with investigators says Assistant Superintendent of Police Fitzroy Yearwood.

“On Wednesday, May twenty-fifth, about 8:25 p.m., police responded to a shooting incident near a gas station in the Trial Farm area.  The victims were already transported to the Northern Regional Hospital where they were learned to be Nazir Vasquez, thirty-one years old, and Reynaldo Marchand, thirty-eight years [old].  Marchand received several body injuries as a result of gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.  The initial investigation revealed that these men were standing on the street side near the gas station when two persons approached on a motorbike and one of them fired several shots in their direction and the driver and the rider of that motorbike then headed towards the San Antonio Road and made good their escape.  We have since searched several homes and we are still trying to identify these two persons and hopefully with the assistance of the general public we would be able to identify and detain [the suspects].”

“The incident was classified initially as a drug-related shooting.  Is there any preparation on the part of the department to address any reprisals should there be any?”

Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well I don’t know who classified it as a drug-related shooting.  In fact, these persons weren’t even approached, they were fired upon by their assailants.  For us to classify something as that, we would have to have proof.  We are currently trying to establish motive, but like I said, it’s not a classification from the police department.”
