Experiencing E-transit in Barbados

Mayor Wagner returned from a recent trip to Barbados earlier this week.  While he met with other Commonwealth officials during his visit, Mayor Wagner also took the opportunity to experience that country’s e-transit system, a mode of electric transportation that he intends to introduce in Belize. He describes that part of his trip.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor, Belize City Council

“The trip was twofold. What that trip did was bring many of the Commonwealth Caribbean countries together to share experiences post-COVID. What worked for them, what never worked, how we can build back better. Belize City was well represented.  Belize, the country, was actually well represented. We had four mayors from Belize participating in the conference, but it also gave my team the opportunity to really view the electric buses. As you know, Barbados is very big on e-transit. They are big on solar energy and we had the opportunity through U.N.D.P., they funded that part of the trip, the extension of the trip to have us see and really ride the buses to see how they interact with the roads in Barbados. Barbados’ roads are similar to Belize and so we had a lot of takeaways from that experience which we intend to apply when we do have our rollout of our e-transit system in Belize.”
