50th Agric Show Kicks Off With Official Ceremony

The National Agriculture and Trade Show is back. The weekend event kicked off this evening with an official ceremony in Belmopan. Her Excellency Froyla Tzalam, the Governor General of Belize, Prime Minister John Briceño, a host of government ministers, officials, and dignitaries, were all in attendance. The ceremony featured cultural performances, and the three farmers of the year received sashes in recognition of their awards.  Here is a brief look at PM Briceño’s remarks from the podium.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“I am happy to be a part of this ceremony.  I congratulate Minister Mai and everyone at the Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise on this occasion the fiftieth agricultural show. I know for the past thirteen years usually the Minister of Agriculture was somebody that was not in favor with the Prime Minister and agriculture was never given hat importance it should play in the development of our country. When we were setting up our Cabinet we felt that Abi Mai was the right person to be able to lead this ship to be the Minister of Agriculture. I must commend him and his team for what they have done in such a short time. Thanks to the work that Abi has done, and he has been working before in the Ministry of Agriculture, that he knew exactly what needed to be done to get agriculture back on track. Congrats to you and your entire team that you have been able to put together to get us back on track and have we had  said earlier agriculture led the economic resurgence during the COVID pandemic.”
