JiF Creamy Peanut Butter Recalled

During the course of the day public health officers have been visiting major supermarkets across the country to remove a series of Jif creamy peanut butter from shelves due to potential salmonella contamination. The Ministry of Health and Wellness has commenced a thorough investigation as a precautionary measure.  These products, with lot codes one-two-seven-four-four-two-five through to two-one-four-zero-four-two-five will be seized, condemned, and destroyed. News Five spoke via phone today with Senior Public Health Inspector Lisa Sanchez-Marin.

On the Phone: Lisa Sanchez-Marin, Senior Public Health Inspector, M.O.H.W.

“The company recalled its peanut butter product due to potential contamination of salmonella hence the reason why peanut butter was recalled. So when there is the recall of a product, public health inspectors in the various districts go out to do an investigation and if found, then the product is removed from the shelf. If anyone already bought any of these products of interests, it has to have the lot number that we are looking for, we are asking them to visit the nearest public health department or they can reach the ministry of health at 828-4257 and ask for myself and then I could see that the product is taken away from them and where it can be destroyed.”

Duane Moody

“There is nobody so far that has come forward with any symptoms of having salmonella?”

On the Phone: Lisa Sanchez-Marin

“So far, well as I mentioned the public health inspectors are out there. They are doing the recall of the product and also doing investigation if there are any such suspected case.”

Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
