Hope Creek Village Gets Significant Amount of Rain Over Two Days

The North Stann Creek River is known for raging flood waters after incessant rainfall, like what happened in 2008 when Tropical Storm Arthur claimed eight lives when the river rose several feet above its banks. While this time the river did flood, the eight inches of rainfall that was dumped in that area where the Melinda Forest Station is located in Hope Creek in just those two days were significant, according to Forecaster, Shanea Young.

“So far, Melinda received about two hundred and eight millimeters, which is eight point two inches, and the second highest is near Dangriga with one hundred and twenty-nine millimeters, about five inches. Yesterday, in Punta Gorda, they did receive some rainfall, about three point six inches, and this morning in the north so most of the rainfall activity has been occurring between yesterday and today along the coast and south. Typically, for this month, in May, the Stann Creek area particularly – Melinda Station would receive about one hundred and thirty millimeters and on an extreme case with the daily volume it would be normally around one hundred and eighty –nine millimeters. So, the highest that they have received since midnight is about one hundred and thirty-five millimeters.”
