Man Sentenced to Three Years for Manslaughter of Common-law-wife

Andrew Caliz

A man who was found guilty of the manslaughter of his common-law-wife was sentenced to three years in prison today. Andrew Caliz will only spend another eighteen months since he has already spent half the time awaiting trial. The incident happened on May fourteenth, 2019 at a cabana in Big Falls Village, Toledo. The couple was getting ready to travel to Belize City when a handgun licensed to Caliz was discharged, hitting the deceased, Francisca Noehemy Caceres, in the right side of her upper back. Caliz went to seek help from a neighbour and explained that an accident had just happened, that the gun accidentally discharged and that his girlfriend was wounded. Caseres died at the Punta Gorda Town Hospital. The case was tried by Supreme Court Justice Antoinette Moore. Caliz was defended by Attorney, Dickie Bradley, and the case was presented by Senior Crown Counsel Javier Chan.
