Double Head Cabbage Goes Fully Independent in Village Council Elections

Village Council Elections are underway and while the two major political parties are claiming wins in various communities, in Double Head Cabbage, a group of seven residents ran on an independent slate and won. D.H.C. Independent Seven wants to bring the village back to a family-oriented fun community through teamwork and without political interference. Today, News Five spoke with the newly elected chairman, Roman McCulloch.

“I am super happen about that because I believe what I have said from before, I don’t really believe that government should be involved in village council because that is the reason why our country is divided, because of politics and now they are taking that to my village, to all the villages in Belize. And therefore, that is why we always have back and forth. I was challenged out there yesterday by the P.U.P.s and the U.D.P.s – they were on my back because I believe they have a fear for it.  I don’t have nothing to offer to the people like giveaways. All I have to offer to my people in my village is love and let us start the work back together again and start to build the community as one community, one village, one people.” I have a plan drawn up that I present to my people in my village. One of the biggest steps that I want to take forward and get done immediately, we have a high school there. Right beside the high school we have a public clinic; right after the clinic, we have a primary school. My first step is that there is a bus stop. There is no speed bump there, there is no sign saying upcoming school. That’s one of the first steps I want to do. So I want to see if we can put a meeting up with Marconi Leal and sit down and talk and see what we can do together to put that speed bump in place.”
