Mr. Program Park Officially Opened

Kareem Musa, the Area Representative for Caribbean Shores today honored now deceased Belizean Musician Gilbert “Mr. Program” Alamilla.  Mr. Program was a member of Musa’s constituency. His life was cut short when he was stabbed to death in October of 2020 at a house on Simon Lamb Street. The thirty-six-year-old was revered for his musical talent and passion for the art he created. Today, a park was officially inaugurated in his name in the community he resided. Here is what Musa and Mayor Bernard Wagner, had to say at the ribbon cutting ceremony this afternoon.

“We were granted, by the new administration, a community development fun each month to do projects within our respective constituencies. The first thing that came to my mind when we heard this was that we need to have a park in honor and tribute to this legend and this icon of Kelly Street, Mr. Program.  I recall quite vividly the night before his untimely passing, spending the last few hours with him; it was like he was on a spiritual high that I have never seen before. Anywhere you went across this country you would see Mr. Program pushing his music because he believed in himself. That is the type of belief we want our young artist to have in them, and we want politicians to have in these artist, the same type of belief and to invest in them, and likewise the community hey hail from.”

Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor

“Today we celebrate and honor our dearly departed friend, Gilbert “Mr. Program” Alamilla, through the dedication of this multifunctional space made possible through he efforts of our hard working minister and Caribbean Shores rep, Kareem Musa. Tragedy struck our hearts on October second 2021 as we heard of Mr Program’s unfortunate passing.  I am certain a storm of grief stationed itself over this community, a matter of fact the entire city, and the entertainment sector, as we prepared to bid our farewells. On that very day in the wee hours of the morning, this country lost a budding icon. In his honor we are gathered to lay the inspirational foundation for numerous icons.”
