A Thief is Shot by Police During Exchange of Gunfire
A foiled burglary at a nightclub on the Philip Goldson Highway over the weekend has resulted in one of several thieves being shot. Belize City police responded to the Titanic Nightclub, formerly Dream Like City, where they encountered four men fleeing the scene of the burglary. One of them produced a firearm and opened fire on the pursuing officers before jumping into the Haulover Creek. During the exchange of gunfire, that individual was injured. Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood provides additional details about the incident.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Director, Belize Police Department
“Police officers from the Precinct Four area responded to a burglary in progress at a popular nightclub on the Northern Highway, on the Philip Goldson Highway. When police arrived on that scene, four men were seen fleeing. One of these men turned around and opened fire on the police that were pursuing them and in a return of fire from the police, it appeared that one of them was injured. Despite being injured, these men managed to swim across the river, that would put you on the Lake Independence side of the river, but because of his injury police caught up with him and he was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he remains under police guard at this time.”

“Have police detained anyone else?”
Fitzroy Yearwood
“Well I know that they have conducted several searches to try to locate his accomplices, but none has been relayed to me at this time, whether or not they have or they were fruitful in detaining any of the other three persons that were with him… The owners haven’t indicated to us whether any property was taken. But like I said, under a previous name that very establishment was burglarized in a similar fashion by residents of the Lake Independence area.”
