Too Much Liquor License Extension
Liquor license extensions are creating a problem for police enforcement in Belize City. According to ComPol Williams, extension approvals are being granted to several establishments within the city without police knowledge. As a result, the department recently met with the Liquor Licensing Board to have a discussion on the issue. ComPol Williams explained.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“Certainly yes we had a meeting with the Mayor and the Chairman of the liquor license board Mr. Madrid, to discuss the issuance of liquor license extension, because we are seeing that places are given extensions unknown to the police. The law is clear; in order to have a nightclub license your place must be sound proof. If it is you are going to have outdoor events were noise or music is going to be played, it should not be. So, we had a very cordial discussion about it. Moving forward the chairman expressed he is going to ensure the police is in the loop when these license or extensions are granted so that we can be on the same page.”
