Blue Economy Prepares to Meet with Placencia Villagers
Minister Perez went on to speak about the potential hazard the use of the bags by villagers in their reclamation exercise poses. He says the ministry will be meeting with the community next week.
Andre Perez, Minister of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation.
“Case in point, when you the footage of the people there it is noble and I recognize it. However scientific and biological issues must come first. For example, the bags being used, these bags I know them, I am a baker. Those bags are flour bags and fertilizer bags, these bags are pollutant plastics. I can guarantee you, the next two three weeks those things are going to integrate. So, instead of helping the island, you are creating micro plastics that are also part of the pollution in our waters. There are many factors of course, climate change which is very real, and we as a country recognizes that. So, we are saying is while those efforts are noble, we must do to the right way. And, we are going to meet with them next week. We are going to meet with them so we can team up. We did not know about it. We were actually informed in the last minute. We were trying to get in contact with our partners to no avail; in the end somewhere late in the night we got this information. So it is not that want to stop or arrest people, we want to work together.”
