B.T.V. Makes Annual Visit to Gracias Adios
Over the weekend, the Belize Territorial Volunteers traveled to the Gracias Adios border marker to commemorate the 1895 Anglo-Guatemalan Treaty. It is an annual trip to recognize the demarcation exercise between Belize and Guatemala that took place as a result of the treaty. Unlike past years, there were no reports of Guatemalan Armed Forces aggression towards local visitors. A mahogany tree was planted at the border marker in honor of Andrew Enriquez, a former B.T.V. member and activist who passed away earlier this year. Here is a brief look at the tree planting ceremony and a few words from Andrew’s brother, Jerry Enriquez, courtesy P.G. T.V.

“Always wanted to be here, always wanted to support initiatives, gave a lot of advice to Belize Territorial Volunteers, and shared a lot of information for the Belizean public that was not readily available through his website. His Facebook page, Belize Abroad, unfortunately he met his untimely death recently at a very young age of fifty three. But, he has left his mark, and I am honored to be here to plant a mahogany tree on his behalf. That tree as it grows it will be long remembered for the stellar work done, accomplishment made, and what he did for sharing his knowledge and resources to Belize.”
