BELTRAIDE Launches “National Competitive Month”

Dr. Leroy Almendarez

BELTRAIDE launched its fifth National Competitive Month, under the theme “unlocking competiveness through innovation and transformation”. The launch was held at the Biltmore where micro, small and medium enterprises shared experiences on innovation and transformation, especially during the peak of COVID. BELTRAIDE hopes to encourage competiveness and innovation through the month of May through engagements like this one. We spoke with Doctor Leroy Almendarez about the initiative.

Dr. Leroy Almendarez, Executive Director, BELTRAIDE

“It is to take a quick assessment of where businesses are, are they surviving? The world has changed. It has become far more competitive. What are they doing or what are we doing, because it is a market place but it is an environment that we must all work together. So, this month allows us to discuss with the private sector, especially with the micro, small, and medium enterprises, to find out as we stand now, and with the inclusion of technology, have you embraced that? Have you found other methodologies? Have you changed the ways you were doing things? Because, while you didn’t change others did and took advantage of the opportunities provided by the pandemic and they are surviving. What we want to hear from them and that is why it was strategic that we chose them from different areas. One of them is in like a micro-BPO, a smaller version of the BPO and provide administrative services that can be outsourced, because anything can be outsourced as long as it is not a poor competence of a business, they outsource it to someone else. So, what we want to hear, how have they been surviving, what are they putting in place? Have they been discussing with others to find best practices? Have they been working with us or how can we assist them with where they are, because you might need some assessment in terms of the gaps that exist. We can provide them with the training and the necessary support even to help with proposal develops to access finance.”
