Child killed in road accident

The enjoyment of long weekends almost always seem to be marred by tragic accidents. This Baron Bliss weekend was no exception. An eleven year old Corozal boy was killed Friday night when he was hit between miles eighty-four and eighty-five on the Northern Highway. According to police, around nine p.m. Ronald Gorman was driving a minivan north towards Santa Elena when he knocked Hsuan Kuan off his bicycle. Gorman appeared in Corozal Magistrate’s Court today and has been charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct and driving without due care and attention. Gorman was offered bail of five thousand dollars which he met. He is to reappear in court on April twenty-sixth.

In another incident in Belize City, a man is suffering from a fractured hand and other injuries after an accident Friday evening. Reports are that Mark Keoppan was driving a Suzuki between mile five and six on the Northern Highway and was about to make a U-turn when he collided into a motorcycle driven by David Bowen. Bowen was immediately taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and has been treated and released. As a result Keoppan has been charged with causing grevious harm, driving without due care and attention and failing to give way when changing directions. But police say that Bowen has asked that the matter be settled out of court.

Another man is hospitalized after he was knocked down early Saturday morning. Police say that around eight p.m. Archibald Morris was driving a Chevy Blazer on Mahogany Street when he hit Emilio Pott who was walking on the sidewalk. Pott suffered a broken limb. Morris has been charged with driving without due care and attention and grevious harm. He is to appear in court on March twenty-fifth.
