Dolores Balderamos-Garcia

On Thursday, the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous People’s Affairs met with about seventy women at the Toledo Sports Complex. The women are from across the district and came together to express their needs and concerns. Commissioner Greg Ch’oc was there to speak about the work of the Indigenous People’s portfolio, however, there are concerns about health issues that women in the Toledo district are facing.

“To the ladies this morning about human rights, the rights of indigenous women, the challenges that we face. But today is not exclusive to indigenous women. We also have some East Indian women, Creole and Mestizo women from the community here and I am very pleased as to how the meeting is going.”

“As I’ve been sitting down with my group this morning discussing issues as it relates to women: domestic violence, as it relates to health issues, as it relates to education. Talking about children too and indigenous people in generation; the discussion has been extremely fruitful.”

Petrona Coy

Petrona Coy, Vice Chair, Big Falls Community

“My participation is one that is of importance especially for women in Toledo. This platform, a meeting, a forum like this gives you the opportunity to share about the needs and the challenges that women face within the remote or the rural and urban communities of Toledo.”
