Police Seeks INTERPOL’s Assistance to Apprehend Former Minister of Works

Former Minister of Works, Rene Montero is still wanted by police, who have sought the intervention of Interpol to apprehend and arrest the erstwhile Cayo Central area representative to face a criminal charge. A copy of an InterPol bulletin, dated March third was circulated today. It bears a picture of the former minister, his name, address, and other particulars, and reads that he is wanted to face a charge of willful oppression, an offense that carries a maximum prison term of two years. The document also highlights the brief facts of the case that is being made against him, based on allegations of “major irregularities and wrong doings” that reportedly occurred during his tenure as Minister of Works. During that time, it is alleged that he, “directed and permitted the use of government property assigned to the ministry to carry out work on his personal private property, family member’s property and close associates, therefore abusing the power of his office”. The initial warrant for Montero’s arrest had been circulated from as early as September of last year, just after he had reportedly left the country purportedly seeking medical treatment. Since then, the police have not been able to locate the former government official.
