Jaheem Baptist is Shot on Arlington Drive

Jaheem Baptist

Twenty-one-year-old Jaheem Baptist was targeted by an unknown assailant on Saturday night while he was walking on Arlington Drive along with several other persons, in Belize City. Someone approached him on foot, fired as many as eight shots in his direction and made good his escape. Police say the incident may not be related to other shootings that took place on Saturday.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Director, Belize Police Department

“Jaheem Baptist was walking on Arlington Drive on Saturday around seven p.m., when a gunman came out from behind a fence and opened fire at him. People in the neighborhood are saying that they may have heard up to eight shots being fired. Mr. Baptist was hit in the arm and was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. We know that officers in that area canvassed that area but so far we haven’t made any detention or arrests in Mr. Baptist’s shooting.”

“Is it… we know that is a name often associated with a certain gang. Is it a gang-related shooting?”

Fitzroy Yearwood

“We would have to know who is the actual shooter for us to answer that question. But we know that Mr. Baptist recently received bail at the court and walking around in that neighborhood, it’s like someone was waiting for him to pass that area. So we are canvassing that area very hard because we believe that this person could be identified because he wasn’t wearing a mask at the time of orchestrating that crime.”
