Federation V.P. Says Good Showing by Belizean Women Cyclists

Unfortunately, defending champion Kaya Cattouse did not contest the thirty-first Women Cross Country Cycling Classic because she is riding professionally with the L.A. Sweat team in the U.S.  The Women Cross Country Cycling Classic saw eleven cyclists compete. Prizes were issued for the top five winners. Vice President of the Cycling Federation of Belize Dion Leslie says that it was a good showing by Belizean cyclists.

“We had prizes for the top five with trophies and medals and there were forty-odd station prizes throughout the race and a bunch of other prizes that were donated by people. We had B.E.L. donating a laptop for the youngest rider to finish. We had SanCas who donated gift baskets for the entire field of women who lined up. So it was a good showing by the Belizean women. Sad that we didn’t get the first place, but it is good to show us where we are and for our women to really look at it and say I need to up my game because of course these races show us internationally the standard where we are and where we need to go. And we have some big races coming up this year including Commonwealth Games in the U.K., the Caribbean Championships, and the Central American Championships. So we do have some big races and this is basically a benchmark for our women cyclists to know where they are and how much more they have to go.”
