Call Center Employee Gunned Down in La Democracia

A nineteen-year-old customer care representative was shot and killed in La Democracia Village on Thursday night. The incident happened sometime around ten p.m. when Tyreak August was at home with two other young men. Someone emerged from the rear of the property and opened fire, fatally injuring August.  Police responded to the scene of the deadly shooting a few minutes later but were unable to apprehend the gunman. Earlier today, News Five spoke with a sibling of the deceased teenager.

“Last night around like, lee bit afta ten, I mi deh eena my room di lay down and I just mi di look fi come over dis side fi cohn do Allen hair because ih ask me fi do ih hair and then I hear pop. But I neva know da mi gunshot, I mi think da mi pop-shot so I di come outside fi rail up with di lee bwai dehn weh live round ya cause di baby di sleep. So then, when my sister-in-law open di door I sih my big bredda run past di door hurry and I open di window and I ask ahn, “Bubs, weh happen?” And then same time police come and dehn let off wah shot too and then I sih he pan di ground with ih hand soh and Tyreak mi deh by di door, limp, and ih neva mi di move. Soh then I start to cry and I ask ahn, “Bubbles, weh happen?” Then I come back outside and then my sister-in-law run come up to ahn and then I walk weh and I scream because I sih and then I walk back over deh and then Bubbles come and he hug me and then we mih deh pan di ground di cry and then everybody start to come.”

It is believed that August’s murder may be connected to an arson that also took place in La Democracia that same evening. Residents also reported hearing gunshots prior to the deadly attack on August. An investigation into both incidents is ongoing.
