Fisherman Attacked by Crocodile at Caye Caulker

The Forest Department has confirmed that a Caye Caulker resident, Joshua Young, was attacked and injured by a crocodile today. The attack happened around ten in the morning on the north side of the Split. Young had been diving and spear fishing when the croc went after him causing injuries to face. He was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for further treatment and is listed in a stable condition. This afternoon the Forest Department and ACES Wildlife Rescue teams were searching the area attempting to catch the creature. The Department urges everyone to avoid crocodiles, and especially to refrain from feeding them or leaving fish carcasses near fishing and swimming areas. They also urge pet owners who live near the water to monitor their animals and protect them. Finally, if you see a crocodile showing aggressive behaviour, contact the Forest Department at 822-1524 or ACES at 623-7920.
