Lord Ashcroft Supports Referendum on Cannabis

Some of Belize’s most influential groups and leaders have pledged their support in favor of a referendum on the cannabis bill. In a latest addition to those calling for a referendum, business man Lord Michael Ashcroft tweeted today that he agrees with former Prime Minister Dean Barrow and will also be signing the petition for a referendum on the issue. The former Prime Minister signed the petition on Wednesday. Before him, the Opposition and several other organizations made their support for a referendum publicly known, or have said they believe an education campaign should be carried out. The National Evangelical Association of Belize launched the petition on Tuesday. It has been making headlines since, with more and more groups making public their support for a referendum.
