PM Receives Honourary Doctorate from Taiwan University

Prime Minister John Briceño has been given an Honorary Doctorate from Kun Shan University in Tainan, Taiwan. The Prime Minister has also been awarded the Order of Propitious Clouds with Special Grand Cordon. Taiwan’s President, Tsai Ing-wen, conferred the honors on the P.M. for his role in advancing mutual ties over the years. The Prime Minister is leading a Belizean delegation in Taiwan, promoting bilateral cooperation. Currently, Belize, Honduras, Guatemala, and Paraguay are the only four countries in Latin America out of Taiwan’s remaining fifteen diplomatic allies. During the ceremony, President Tsai, through a translator, expressed hope that our two countries can deepen the diplomatic friendship that is over thirty years old.

Tsai Ing-wen, President of Taiwan (Translated)

“This is the first time I have received Prime Minister Briceño since taking office and it is the Prime Minister’s first visit to Taiwan since taking his current position. It is a great pleasure to greet a dear friend from afar with our grandest display of military honours. This October marks the thirty-third anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of China, Taiwan and Belize. In recent years, our two nations have worked together very closely in numerous fields. For Prime Minister Briceño’s visit, we look forward to exchanging opinions on issues of mutual interest, deepening cooperation and elevating our diplomatic friendship even further.”
