Ministry of Blue Economy Gets Approval to Establish Mariculture Policy

At its last meeting, Cabinet also recommended that the Cannabis Control and Licensing Bill be introduced at the next Sitting of the House of Representatives. Upon adoption of the Cannabis Control Bill, the licensing of the Cannabis industry and the establishment of necessary legislative framework will be undertaken. This is to govern and control how the industry is managed. In other Cabinet news, the Ministry of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation has gotten the green light for the presentation of a draft National Mariculture Policy. This will lead to the development of a sustainable mariculture industry. Cabinet also gave its approval for the Attorney General’s Ministry to amend the law that will allow Belize to adopt the Madrid Protocol as part of our domestic legal framework. And lastly, while the COVID-19 numbers have shown to be on the decline, as of March third, the Ministry of Health had in store almost two hundred and fifty thousand doses of vaccines.  Up to that same date, a little over two hundred and seven thousand persons, or about forty-eight percent of the total population had been fully vaccinated, while over two hundred and fourteen thousand, or just under fifty percent of the population recently had their first shot. A little over thirty-nine thousand citizens have received their booster shots and almost thirty-one thousand students from ages twelve to seventeen had received at least one dose of the vaccine.
