Corozal Shooting Victim May Never Walk Again

Andre Sanker

Andre Sanker was struck to the back and was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a critical condition. He has since been stabilized, but he is still not out of harm’s way. This morning, when we spoke with his sister Marlyn Galvez, we got an update on his prognosis. She says that her younger brother very likely won’t walk again.

“When we arrived at Karl Heusner, they stabilized him for a while and they couldn’t do anything much due to the severity of what he was in. we had to do some C.T. scans and the results came back that the bullet did not touch his spine, but it caused damages to the nerve and some of the tendons. Unfortunately the doctor told us in the case of that, they wouldn’t be able to do surgery on him because the bullet isn’t somewhere that it is harming and of his organs so there is no internal bleeding. But unfortunately, he won’t be able to move his legs, so he will be paralysed from the hip downward to his toe.”

“That was confirmed or they are just saying it is a possibility?”

Marlyn Galvez

“Well the doctor said that his chances of walking right about now is slim to none. So he says that we will need a miracle for him to walk in the future. Right about now, there is no possibility of movements in his leg. Last night he had severe pain and all that they could do is just give him pain killers and try to stabilise him. That’s all.”

“For right now, what are they saying is his condition?”

Marlyn Galvez

“He is stable, he is not critical anymore. They have him in the surgical ward; they are monitoring him. A doctor from B.M.A. should be coming over to give a second opinion based on the C.T. scan and different ultrasound results that they had. So that is what we are waiting for.”
