Caribbean Heads of Government Treated to Local Cuisine

Prime Minister John Briceño

On Tuesday night, CARICOM’s Heads of Government were treated to a night of Belizean cultural cuisine and live music. Prime Minister John Briceño says it was a really enjoyable event featuring the best local dishes. He told News Five’s Paul Lopez about his personal favorites.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“That was something, an eye opener, even for myself being a local. I must give credit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. What they did was an event called Taste Belize. So, they had tacos to shrimp in a coconut husk. That was exceptional. Hudut, rice and beans, I was going for the hudut, and I saw the rice and beans look so nice and juicy, and wet and soft, so I had to get some of the rice and beans.”

Paul Lopez

“You ate rice and beans with hudut?”

Prime Minister John Briceño

“Yes, I put rice and beans on the side and I ate both of them. But, I am happy that our visitors are really enjoying it. Many of them are really coming to Belize for the first time. Many of the heads have been here, but some of them for the first time, or their staff. And, they are having a blast. Immediately they recognized that Belize is different in the sense that we have something different to offer than the Caribbean.”
