$100,00BZ in Medical Equipment Collected and Donated by Ignite Belize
On Monday, Ignite Belize handed over one hundred thousand Belize dollars worth of medical equipment, collected through the generosity of local and international donors. According to a release from Ignite Belize, the supplies include walkers, crutches, canes, and wheel chairs. These will be distributed through the Ministry of Human Development to those in need. Ignite Belize is described as a social movement to invigorate the diaspora in the United States. Project manager Erica-Antoinette Castillo Slaton says the “Health is Our Wealth” project will be the first of many to come.

“Today, I stand before you with a charge to Belizeans at home and abroad. I am here to move and inspire, all, but most importantly those of the diaspora, to take inventory of your resources, relationships and your influence over those that can be of great value to our beloved Belize. There is no one more responsible for the condition of Belize than its people. I want to encourage you to partner with Belize.”
The equipment was shipped from Atlanta, Georgia and handed over at the NEMO warehouse in Ladyville. Sponsors included Belize’s Ambassador for Diaspora Relations, Sandhya Murthy; Erika Mitchell of the Atlanta Board of Education, the Belize Ministry of Tourism Development and Diaspora Relations, Ministry of Human Development, Hyde Shipping, Belize Freight, Uruwei International and Friends of Disabled Adults and Children Incorporated.
