The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to Inaugurate Mosque in Belize City

Today, at its headquarters on the George Price Highway in Belize City, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community held a press conference about the officially inauguration of its first mosque in Belize. The community established itself in the country back in 2014 and has since grown leaps and bounds, providing humanitarian services and a safe space for worship to members of its community and the general public. Present at today’s press conference were members of the Muslim community from Guatemala, Canada, and Colombia.

“We got established in Belize in 2014 and ever since, we had been jumping from one place to the other and we were staying on rent. By the grace of God, about two-three years ago, we ended up purchasing this property. And now with the inauguration of the mosque this has become our permanent home and also the headquarters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in Belize. This is very historical for us. Every mosque is very important, but this is unique because the person that purchased the land was one person; the person that paid for the construction of it was one person and then there were fifteen volunteers that came from Canada and stayed here and build the whole mosque during the pandemic and they also came as volunteers. So this speaks how our Jama’at encourages people to give from themselves and try to make a difference for the greater population. So it took us about a year and a half and the whole masjid was built within the pandemic and it can accommodate around two hundred worshippers.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim community was founded in 1889 as a revival movement of Islam emphasising peace, love, and sanctity of life. It can be found in over two hundred countries around the world.
