St. Joseph holds science fair

The Festival of Arts showcases Belizean children’s artistic talents, but it is largely up to individual schools to foster their scientific interest. At the end of the school year St. Joseph’s School always puts on a good show and this year was no different.

Aspiring rocket scientists, electricians and geologists dazzled the eyes of fellow students and parents with their final projects at the annual St. Joseph Upper School Science Fair. Science teacher, Annelie May, says a lot of work went into the projects.

“Sometimes they have to research on the topic they have to work on. Sometimes they come to me for help; they are very enthusiastic. They learned a lot from it and had fun.”

“We learned about the planets and their diameters, their distance from the sun, their atmosphere and their mass and such.”

“We are basically explaining the four eco-zones in our marine ecosystem. Why it is important and how we can go about conserving it?

We have learned that the environment is very important to us and we have multiple benefits. We should take care of it so the future can enjoy it.”

The fair was more than just a time to show off, each of the 32 groups are competing for trophies that will be presented at the Standard Six graduation ceremonies on June 26th. Arreini Palacio for News Five.
