PM to Domestic Violence Victims: “Your Partner Has No Right to Hit You”

Prime Minister John Briceño chimed in on the state of affairs within the United Democratic Party, referring to the domestic violence allegations against Patrick Faber as a pattern. As the U.D.P. seeks to rebuild its internal leadership, P.M. Briceño noted that it is everyone’s business to condemn domestic violence and offer support to victims.

“I don’t think that Patrick Faber had any other option than he had to resign. This has been a pattern. It’s something that we should not accept from anybody to have this kind of violence against your partners, especially leaders in our country. So, he had no choice. Well now, the UDP has to go back to the drawing board and try to find who is going to be their next leader. It is something that is a shameful behavior in our society. It is a lot more prevalent than what we think. It is something that we must all condemn. And even the partner that is being bullied and abused, we need to stand by them and give them the support. I know in many instances they feel like they did something wrong. No, you did not do anything wrong. Your partner has no right to hit you, or be violent with you, or have any kind of abuse. So, it is something that I feel strongly about, and that we must condemn and that as a society we have to do better, not just the politicians, but all of us.”
