Social Security Board consults on reforms

Today, the Belize Social Security Board announced the winners of their essay and poster contests. The essays were judged on structure, style, content and presentation. The first prize of one thousand dollars was won by Emil Cherrington of St. John’s Junior College. Collecting five hundred dollars in cash was the second place winner, Brenda Serano of St. John’s Sixth Form evening division. Geneva Francisco of Nazarene High School captured third prize which was two hundred and fifty dollars. For the poster competition, which was judged on content, creativity and style, the national prize of two hundred and fifty dollars was won by Vianca Gallego of James Garbutt Seventh Day Adventist School. There were also six district prizes of one hundred dollars each that were won by primary schools across the country. Both the poster and essay competitions were based on the theme “Social Security Reform: A Challenge for the New Millennium.”

The Belize Social Security Board will be hosting a countrywide symposium from May thirty first to June eighth. The meetings, which will be hosted at various venues across the country, are being held in order for the board to consult with the public and to get their opinion on the ideas of social security reform. The first forum was today at La Immaculada Credit Union in Orange Walk and tomorrow the symposium will be in Corozal at the Town Hall. It will be in Belize City on June 2nd.
