Finding a New Leader of the U.D.P. & Leader of the Opposition

So, with his official departure taking effect in the next five days, U.D.P. Chairman Michael Peyrefitte was asked if they will be looking for a party leader or a Leader of the Opposition or both.

“There’s nothing wrong with two separate persons holding two separate roles. They are very separate you know. Leader of the party has nothing to do with the leader of the opposition. As we’ve examined over and over again, the leader of the opposition is chosen by the majority of those in the House so it is whatever the five of them decide. Whoever is the person that they want, the Constitution of Belize says that they are the ones that determine that; the leader of the party is completely different. It is always possible to have two separate people holding two separate posts.”
