Shyne Barrow for U.D.P. Leader
Just before midday today, former Leader of the Opposition and Mesopotamia area rep, Shyne Barrow, announced his bid for the leadership of the United Democratic Party on his Facebook page. The post comes less than twenty-four hours after Patrick Faber in a public statement said he would tender his resignation as leader of the U.D.P. on January thirty-first. You would recall that just last year, Barrow held the position as Leader of the Opposition after leading the charge against Faber, which had led to a leadership recall within the U.D.P. With the recent domestic abuse scandal surrounding Faber, Barrow says he “refrained from comment because I wanted to give our Party and the former Leader the space to do what was in the best interest of the U.D.P. and that is to make way for new leadership”. He went on to offer himself to become the new leader of the U.D.P. Barrow was unavailable for an interview today as we are told that he is already out district campaigning. His post ends by saying, “I will lead and serve with humility, conviction, compassion, vision, inclusion, equality and unity to transform our beloved U.D.P. into a formidable force that will regain the confidence and trust of the masses, so we can serve all citizens as the next Government of Belize.”
