Hugo Patt Will Become Interim Leader of the U.D.P.

Hugo Patt

News Five spoke via phone to deputy party leader and Corozal North area representative, Hugo Patt, this morning. Patt expressed that he has no interest in becoming leader of the United Democratic Party. But according to U.D.P. Chairman Michael Peyrefitte, he may not have a choice. The party regulations sets out that Patt, as the first deputy, will become the interim party leader effective February first.

“The Honorable Hugo Patt as the first deputy of the party should, if Mister Faber resigns on January thirty-first, Hugo should become interim leader by February first. And his only agenda from what I see, as an interim leader under the circumstances, he needs to do is to set an election for there to be a new leader – for the lack of a better word – a new permanent leader for the party. The thing is the Honorable Hugo Patt, if the honourable Faber chooses to resign on January thirty-first still will become the interim leader and then we would gather around and ensure that an election for a new leader is held within ninety days as per the constitution of the U.D.P.”
