Chorus of Calls for Faber to Resign

This afternoon the People’s United Party added its voice to the chorus of organizations calling for the leader of the opposition to resign. They not only want him to step down as Leader of the Opposition, but also they want him out of the House entirely. The P.U.P. say they stand with the United Women’s Group, the Belize Youth Movement, and the Marshall’s Community Service Corps, to unequivocally denounce Faber’s actions last week. According to the P.U.P., this was just another case in a series of reported domestic altercations that are on public record and that “as the Leader of the Opposition, a five-term politician, as an experienced member of parliament, there cannot be any more tolerance for his actions. Enough is enough”. The P.U.P. says it supports the call by the National Trade Union Congress of Belize for a review of the Belize Constitution to examine the criteria for the disqualification of a member of parliament. Additionally, the Constitutional Reform Commission, that is to be installed shortly, must ensure that the criteria for the disqualification of members of parliament seriously considers the Code of Conduct of members, which puts the Parliament in disrepute, particularly as it relates to gender-based violence.
