All districts have been experiencing a rise in COVID-19 cases over the last few weeks. Transmission rates are especially high though in the Belize, Cayo and Orange Walk Districts. Doctor Melissa Diaz-Musa says that it was expected.

“From the start of this fourth wave, we know that the Belize District has had the highest rate of transmission, followed by Cayo. I mean we know that these are two of the more dense districts in the country in terms of population. We have big work forces in both places so these are the initial districts that have seen the spike. We need to keep a close watch on the other districts as well because that spike may come later on in the week.”
According to the report, testing must be increased with special attention given to clusters and areas of high human density, ports of entry, and businesses and buildings with high occupancy and poor ventilation.
