Health Minister Says C.E.O.’s Appointment Is Positive Development
While many people would be happy to see Dr. Manzanero stay at the Ministry of Health since he was able to offer calm in the time of a storm, some are still questioning the appointment of the new C.E.O. Dr. Julio Sabido.
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness
“Because we’re saying that we’re bringing the C.E.O. to make sure that he can follow the PlanBelize agenda doesn’t make it political for me. I believe this is the commitment the Belizean people voted for. We campaigned on PlanBelize manifesto. Those are the things that we are promising the Belizean people, so that’s the direction we want to go. That’s the policy we want to push forward in how we can make equal health for all Belizeans, so I do support that notion that we need to ensure that we are delivering the commitments that PlanBelize speaks of. So, with everybody on board, with everybody in place we can achieve those things. PlanBelize doesn’t speak of it’s the P.U.P. this, it’s the P.U.P. that. It speaks about health; it speaks about how we’re going to provide more human resources such as nurses to the K.H.M.H. and our different hospitals, how are we going to improve the facilities; how are we going to improve the services that we offer at the Ministry of Health and Wellness? So, it is in that context that we have to remain focused. So, Dr. Sabido as the C.E.O. is going to work closely with me as the Minister. Government sets policy, and our policy is based on the decision people voted for under PlanBelize.”
